Ireland 2011

Shine A Light – Belfast, Northern Ireland

February and May by John Daly

Celtic Connections

This one is a bit different.

Scotland took part in a four-cornered competition including all of the Celtic nations – Northern Ireland, Wales and the hosts, Ireland.

All matches were to be played in Dublin.

The plan was to associate with each of the groups of fans and to make a donation in each of the three opponents countries.

The first match for Scotland took place on Wednesday 09 February.

As normal, the TA select had organised a fans match against the Northern Ireland fans. The match took place at Irishtown Stadium and the TA Select organisers kindly invited the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal to share the stage.

Our chosen charity was “Shine A Light” who are a voluntary organisation focused on improving the “Quality of Life” of young children diagnosed with cancer and are who operate in Northern Ireland.

Both the Amalgamation of Northern Irish Supporters Clubs and the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal donated £500 to the charity.

The Sunshine Appeal appreciated Alan Rough’s offer of help in the future, one that we’re sure we’ll take him up on. Thanks, Alan!
